Welcome to Aperiodic 2022

Aperiodic 2022 (10th International Conference on Aperiodic Crystals) will be held on June 20-24, 2022, in Akira Suzuki Hall of Sapporo campus at Hokkaido University, Japan. Aperiodic 2022 is the latest in a series of conferences supported by the Commission on Aperiodic Crystals (CAC) of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr). These conferences are held essentially every three years, with the most recent meetings in Ames Iowa (the USA, 2018), Prague (Czech Republic, 2015), Cairns (Australia, 2012), Liverpool (UK, 2009), Zao (Japan, 2006), Belo Horizonte (Brazil, 2003) and Nijmegen (The Netherlands, 2000). Aperiodic 2022 is the second of this series held in Japan. This time the conference will be held under the auspices of Hypermaterials project, running in Japan since 2019 for 5 years, that includes studies of quasicrystals, approximants and incommensurate structures. Aperiodic 2022 provides an excellent opportunity to learn about new results in the field of aperiodic crystals, including incommensurately modulated phases, composite crystals, and quasicrystals. Aperiodic 2022 also offers an opportunity for researchers working in these fields to exchange ideas and encourage collaborations with other research groups, hence promoting material science and engineering. The campus of Hokkaido University is located at the center of Sapporo, which is the largest city in Hokkaido island with a population of approximately 2 millions. The participants will enjoy the most pleasant season in this northern island, late Spring, with its many flowers.

*Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 10th International Conference on Aperiodic Crystals (Aperiodic 2021) has been postponed to 2022 and will be held from June 20-24, 2022. Accordingly, the abbreviation of the conference has been changed to "Aperiodic 2022".

Aperiodic 2022 has ended successfully. The organizers would like to thank all those who paticpated on-site and online.

Aperiodic 2022 Student Award (June 24)

The Student Award for Outstanding Oral Presentation at the 10th International Conference on Aperioidic Crystals has been given to Chiara Moretti (PhD Student, ENS de Lyon (France)), "Self-assembly of nanoparticles: from periodic superlattices to quasicrystalline phases."
The prize comes with a cash prize of 30,000 JPY with honorable certificate.

IMPORTANT(May 4, 2022 updated)

The Aperiodic 2022 conference has been decided to be held in a hybrid format. As of today, Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs only allows foreigners with special reasons to enter Japan. Unfortunately, in-person participation in a conference in Japan is not considered as a special reason. As of Today, it is not clear when this restriction will be lifted. As soon as the situation changes, we will inform you on this page.
Note that the Aperiodic 2022 conference secretariat cannot be a receiving organization to be registered at ERFS system for VISA application, unfortunately.
