The 11th International Conference on Quasicrystals (ICQ11) will be held on June 13 - 18, 2010, in the Conference hall of Sapporo campus at Hokkaido University, Japan. This is one of the series following the 1st workshop in Les Houches, France, the 2nd in Beijing, China, the 3rd Meeting in Vista-Hermosa, Mexico, the 4th Conference in St. Louis, USA, the 5th in Avignon, France, the 6th in Tokyo, Japan, the 7th in Stuttgart, Germany, the 8th in Bangalore, India, the 9th in Ames, USA and the 10th in Zürich, Switzerland. ICQ11 provides an excellent opportunity to learn about new results in the field of quasicrystals and related crystals.  ICQ11 also offers an opportunity for researchers working on quasicrystals and related topics to exchange ideas and encourage collaborations with other research groups, hence promoting material science and engineering. The campus of Hokkaido University is located at the center of Sapporo, which is the largest city in Hokkaido island with a population of approximately 2 millions. The participants will enjoy the most pleasant season in this northern island, late Spring, with its many flowers.

Conference

The conference will be held in the Conference hall of Sapporo campus at Hokkaido University on June 13 - 18, 2010 (http://www.hokudai.ac.jp/en/index.html). The conference will start with a get-together party in the evening of June 13, Sunday. Scientific programs will start on Monday morning and end in the early afternoon on June 18, Friday. A half day excursion to some interesting places near Sapporo is planned. Conference language is English.

About the logo

Hokkaido University has long history of the research on crystallography. In 1936 Dr. Ukichiro Nakaya successfully produced the world's first "artificial snowflake crystal". Discovery of the mechanism of snowflake crystals brought him the Prize of the Japan Academy, and the university became a center of low-temperature science in Japan. The logo was designed by Dr. Cesar Pay Gómez to symbolize the past and the future, namely from the snow crystal to the quasicrystal.  The famous phrase by Dr. Nakaya is "Snow, a letter from the sky.".  One purpose of our conference is to find a proper ending to the phrase "Quasicrystals, a letter from c ?".
