GettingToSapporo Q: Where is Sapporo? How to get to Sapporo ?

A: Sapporo is located in the north island named Hokkaido, and approximately 800 km far from Tokyo.

Sapporo (New Chitose) Airport is the nearest to Sapporo, which is the third largest airport in Japan. The Airport is served by 6 domestic airlines and 10 international airlines. However, there is no direct flight from Europe, America and India, but only from China, Taiwan, Guam, Korea, and Sakhalin. Then you need to make a connection for Sapporo at Tokyo, Osaka, or Nagoya. There is, unfortunately, a few flights between Tokyo (Narita) and Sapporo (New Chitose). If you do not like to bring heavy luggage from Tokyo (Narita) to Tokyo (Haneda), please ask your travel agency possible connection at Osaka (Kansai) or Nagoya. Usually Star alliance has good connection at Nagoya (Chubu).

From Sapporo (New Chitose) Airport to Sapporo city, there is a nice and frequent connection by JR rapid train, named Rapid Airport. Conference site and your hotel are very close to the JR Sapporo Station. A member of local organizing committee will guide you at the airport (Prof. Tamura will be there from 2pm to 5pm.) However, there is no service to pick you up at the airport.
